MEXICO

Today marks the first day of fall. What better way to say goodbye to summer then a blog post from Mexico.

In May Michael and I had the privilege of traveling to Mexico to photograph Jenn and Luke’s wedding. It has been one of my highlights since starting Hannah Mulligan Photography. As much as we love to travel and as much as I love what I do; to be able to combine the two was something magical. Jennifer and Luke decided to take their family and closest friends to a resort in Cancun to have their wedding. For us to be involved in such a small, fun, intimate setting I felt more like a friend then a vendor. They were so warm and welcoming to both Michael and I. The wedding day was filled with some of our favorite things. First and foremost the BEACH, romance, music, fun, HEAT and LOVE! Talk about a laid back day. For all you brides who are looking for something different think about a destination wedding! I dont think you will be disappointed!

Erin + Blaine

Erin + Blaine

These two celebrated their 9 year anniversary yesterday! Time sure does fly by when you’re having fun! While we were in Utah this summer we spent one morning watching the sun rise in the national park. When photographers travel you know there has to be time set aside for a photoshoot! Erin and Blaine shot my husband and I while I shot them. We spent the morning exploring and totally getting lost! Good thing it’s gorgeous there and even if we didn’t get to see the sun rise in the double arches we got to see beautiful scenery.  When we finally arrived at the double arches we were so excited! Definitely worth all the hiking (barefooted I might add)! Getting lost in a place like this was the best thing that could have happened! That early morning hike was one of our favorites!

So congratulations to our friends and travel partners! Yall sure do make a great team!

Jasmine + Cory

Jasmine + Cory

Jasmine would pass by this privately owned historical home and always thought she would love to get married there. She finally stopped by one day and met the nice owners who said “come on in.” You never know if you dont ask. Of course they didn’t mind at all! Only in the south would strangers open up their homes to other strangers for a wedding. Jasmine had planned this sweet, intimate ceremony to take place on the front lawn under the oaks. It was a bright sunny day and then out of no where, in true Louisiana fashion, an afternoon downpour came. Talk about terrible timing. I was so nervous she would have been upset but Jasmine didn’t let it get her down! With their two daughters and about 10 of their closest family and friends they became Mr. and Mrs.

Hebert Family

Hebert Family

MEXICO

While we were in Mexico in May my sister and her family were there to celebrating their anniversary! What better gift then a family shoot. I love shooting my nephews; I mean come on; could they get any cuter? They are growing up so fast, Im seeing the importance of photographing each stage. Fisher is 4 years old and he already had lost a tooth. 1/2 way through the shoot he lost another tooth leaving him with that adorable gap at the bottom of his mouth. Shooting a family is very different my normal couple session. Kids definitely give you a run for your money. Michael had a bag of M&Ms and after every picture would reward the boys with their “treat”. Kinda like puppies. “Smile”…good boy. (mouth opens for M&M) It was a good little system. What I love about Lindsey is she always finds the PRETTIEST hotels anywhere she goes. Nizuc was absolutely stunning! I was so excited to photograph there. Happy 14th! Love yall!

MEXICO

(The southern belle and a LSU football player)

When Jenn first contacted me about her destination wedding in Mexico I was beyond excited! Completely over the moon! My first international wedding at one of our favorite vacation spots! You can’t beat the ease of Mexico. Just a 3 hour plane ride and your seeing crystal waters! Jenn and Luke decided to do their engagement session a couple days before their wedding. I loved that idea since I got to do a photoshoot on the beach, explore the resort where they would be getting married, and Jenn and Luke got comfortable being in front of the camera! What a fun afternoon. Jenn asked me before we left what should she wear for the shoot. I love when my clients and I are on the same page! All I wanted was something that would flow in the breeze and thats exactly what I got. Jenn and Luke had a great chemistry not to mention how gorgeous she is!! They were willing to do anything for great pictures! I swear Jenn would have gone swimming in the ocean if I would have asked her to. Gotta love that attitude. Being with them for the engagement session made us so excited for their wedding. They treated us more like guests then a vendor. It was like watching our friends getting married. We couldn’t have asked for a better couple for our first international wedding experience! Their wedding will be hitting the blog very soon.

Mayme’s Bridals

M A Y M E

I was so excited to finally be able to shoot at the Houmas house! What a beautiful location. Brides, take notes;)Mamye made such a pretty bride and I LOVED her flowers, as you can tell in the pictures. Not to mention cathedral veils always get me giddy! It was a hot summer day but Mayme was a trooper. Southern brides know what it takes to smile through the humidity. Her wedding will be hitting the blog soon. Until then here are some of my favorites from her bridals! Enjoy!

Lindsay + John

Lindsay + John

New Orleans has this couples heart. It’s the city that they call home. The city where they fell in love. When it came down to planning their wedding there was no question where it should be. On a rooftop overlooking their beloved city. Their style as a couple reflects the vibes of Nola, “Let the good times roll.” When arriving we first visited John and his boys. They didnt have a care in the world. I always laugh when I look at the difference between the Groom and his men verses the Bride and her girls. There’s no stress. It’s really a pre-party before the real party/reception gets started. There is an ease while shooing them. Im usually offered a beer and to watch tv; It’s always a good time. Leaving the boys I headed to Lindsay. I was so excited to see her. She was one of those brides who felt more like a friend then a client.

They’re first look was one of my favorites. They exchanged meaningful gifts and private vows to each other. I always feel so privileged to be a part of such intimate moment. Their “unplugged” (ALWAYS a good choice) ceremony was perfect; full of laughter and tears. The reception was tons of fun which had a lot to do with the couple. Sometimes Im asked, “How to we insure a fun reception?” My response is, “If you are dancing everyone else will dance too.” The night ended as every New Orleans wedding should; a second line to the after party. What a wedding!

Susan + Aaron

SUSAN + AARON

If you have ever sat down with the daunting task of getting together a guest list for your wedding, you know that 50 guests can quickly turn into 200. I mean where do you stop? “If we invite them we’ll have to invite them.” Here in Louisiana we pride ourselves on hospitality. Where does that leave us a wedding guest list?

Sometimes less means more…Do you really need your third cousin’s +1 watching as you share your vows or your first kiss as husband and wife. It should be intimate with your closest love ones. They should have the privilege and honor of sharing that special moment with you. Susan and Aaron achieved what seems to be impossible…a small, sweet, simple ceremony.

On their wedding day I got to drive two blocks from my house in the Saint Streets to Aaron’s family’s home where the ceremony would be. Already I was emotionally connected because of the love for the area and their home. We often walk Bonnie, our dog and pass their house not knowing one day I’d get the opportunity to photograph their wall-papered, charming southern home.

Lets take a moment to discuss her wedding day attire. Her art -deco inspired ring included emerald accents on the side, which went along great with her sleek Amsao Bridal Gown. Love when girls express their individuality on their wedding day.

The ceremony lasted 20 minutes as her 20+ guests sat around the living room and watched. The guest rode in true southern style as the trolly brought them downtown to the art museum for the reception.

The night was filled with Spanish inspired dishes from Pamplona’s, dancing, and the limbo game! What a great wedding!

Kristin + Joe

“As far as I can reach….Like the cosmos”

Kristin and Joe’s biggest concern on their wedding day was each other. That statement seems like it would be true for every bride and groom but unfortunately that is not the case. Most brides worry about if her hair and makeup matches the Pinterest inspiration picture, if the florist remembered to put up the isle pew flower or tule arrangements, or if the monogramed cake cutter was in the box that was suppose to be delivered with the cake….even down to the weather; which she has absolutely no control of. Don’t get me wrong I totally get it. Details are everything!! That is why I highly recommend a wedding planner for your big day. With all the “TO-DOs” that come with “I-DOs” couples forget about the fact that they are marrying the love of their life and focus on everything else. How refreshing it is to be a part of a wedding where the main focus is on each other. Kristin and Joe could not wait to see each other and wanted to set aside time to enjoy each other. A first look matched them perfectly. They were able to read each other their hand written love letters and take in the only quiet moment of the day. Not to mention how much I love when couples set aside time for portraits. It’s definitely a MUST! After the ceremony they had the sweetest sparkler exit to their trolley that would take them to their reception. Also a great tip for future brides who may be reading this; Instead of having your exit at the end of the reception with all 200+  intoxicated guests why not have a exit leaving the ceremony? Must more easy and intimate!

Kristin and Joe hold a very special spot in my heart. She stands out as one of my sweetest brides to date. Kind and madly in love. Those are my kind of people!

Michelle + Josh

Rain on your wedding aint no body got time to be bothered by that. Your outlook on your wedding day can make or break it. Thankfully, Michelle and Josh handled it like champs. Because at the end of the day rain or shine, you get to call yourself Mr. and Mrs. Their first look was filled with mosquitos, humidity and happy tears. The rain was just coming down on that clear topped tent, which amy I add had the most beautiful floral chandelier (shout out to root floral.) The band was awesome and so was the couple crowd surfing. No need for a grand exit after that.
